"... massage for the purpose
of relaxation, rehabilitation,
or health maintenance"
|

Swedish Massage also known as the Western or Classic style of massage
is a scientific system of manipulations on the muscles & connective
tissue or the soft tissue of the body for the purpose of relaxation,
rehabilitation, or health maintenance.
Swedish Massage Therapy is probably the most popular and familiar
massage technique being practiced today. It also serves as a foundation
for many other forms of massage. The five basic strokes of Swedish
Massage are: Effleurage, Petrissage, Friction, Tapotement, and Vibration.
Typically a Swedish massage begins with the client in the supine
(on the back) position and usually lasts for about an hour. While
in this position, the therapist begins working on the scalp, face,
neck, and shoulders, and then proceeds to the arms, hands, continues
the session by working on the back of the legs and ending with the
back.
During the massage session the client lies unclothed on the massage
table and is draped with a sheet and blanket for warmth and to maintain
professional standards. A body part is uncovered only when being
massaged. A very light natural oil or lotion is used to allow for
the therapist to properly administer the various massage techniques.
Please check with your therapist for any contraindications.
